More Things That I Made

I made some teeeeeeshirts and some onesies this week for some gifts. They turned out way cooler than I ever expected and so I have to post them on my blog. I mean, how will people know how awesome I am if I don't post EvERyThINg I do on my blog (which, by the way is short for "Web Log":)?

Watch out, all of you having babies soon, which seems to be just about everyone that I know...you may be getting some lovely onesies!

Tour de Cure for Diabetes- Take 2

Yay!!!! We made it!!! Brian finished his Century ride in under 6 hours with only killing one birdie. I did my 50K in 1:49, which was a lot faster than I thought I would be able to do it, as my furthest ride EVER was 30 miles. My bum was a little bit sore, but all in all, not bad!

Our team raised over $4000 for diabetes. There were 1900 riders. I was a Red Rider and all of us Diabetics were matchies.

It was a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed the fact that it was the one day that it was cool to be diabetic!! Not even one person asked me if the thing on my hip (not the baby) was a pager or how many songs it holds. Seriously, I have been asked both questions.

A big thanks to Uncle Julie who was so excellent and helped sooooo much with watching Rad and Buddie. She is awesome! Konrad will miss her a ton. He is already asking where Uncle Julie is at!

The first pic is of Rad doing his goofy face. He has started doing this face and it is the funniest thing I have ever seen. I kinda think he is imitating a face I have been making at him since we brought him home (kinda sounds like a puppy;).

Good night all!

Look What I Can Do!!!

I have been inspired by watching "Mad Men" on Sunday nights. It is a great show on AMC. Anyhow, it is about the early 1960's and has great costumes. I love their portrayl of housewives of the 1960's, hence the apron that I sewed yesterday. Actually, I got this pattern a few years ago, got about 1/3 of the way done with it then gave up b/c the directions on the pattern were totally stupid. This situation had been plaguing me for two years so I busted it out yesterday and finished it in two hours. I don't sew regularly nor am I very good at it, but it was so much fun!! YaY!! for housewives!!!! I am bringing housewives back!!!

Tour de Cure for Diabetes

Now that the Half Marathon is over and done with, my sight is now set on the Tour de Cure. This is not a race, but a charity ride whose sole purpose is to raise money for Diabetes. I wanted to do the ride last year, but was growing a baby, so this year IT IS ON!!!
The ride is on Aug. 23. I am doing the 30 mile bike ride. Brian is doing the century. I told him last night that I think that means 100 miles. Am I right?? Anyhow, Brian is the President of the School of Dentistry Cycling club, which club has raised $1785.00 for the Tour. As of today, 13 of us are signed up to ride in two weeks.
Not very often does one get the chance to raise money and participate in cause that affects them personally, so I am really excited. Along with excited, I am grateful for all the people that have donated money. Diabetes is a tough disease to face and many of those affected by it do it each day without complaint (in my case I complain daily). Technology has made diabetes extremely mangageable and thanks to all the money raised, hopefully the next generation of Diabetics will see a cure!! One can hope...
If any of my faithful readers would like to donate money or simply want to spy and see if we survive the ride, you can visit my website at http://main.diabetes.org/goto/eckleinman.
xoxo, Emily

Get 'im!!!

"Get 'im..." This is what I said to Jessica about 100 yards from the finish. "Get 'im". He was one of those guys that we had kinda been going back and forth with the whole half marathon. The last little bit was downhill and I figured "What would make me more happy right now than passing this guy in the striped shorts??" (pronounced strip-ed). So, we got 'im.

We ran the Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half Marathon on Aug. 9. It was AWESOME!! At mile 10 I said to Jessica that we should be coming up on mile ten, when she told me that we had passed it a few minutes ago. That is good news, always.

Jessica Checketts, her brother Joseph and I all met up at 5:30 AM and drove up to Georgetown Lake for the run. First off, people are hilarious. I really wish I had the confidence needed to wear a running skirt. No, I just don't care enough, especially at such early hours.

Then we waited in line for 30 minutes to use the potties (ick). Then we had about 15 minutes before the race started when we realized that we needed to use the potty again. Thankfully and mercifully, we looped back by the potties right after mile two. And we are sure glad we did.

It was a fun run and I am sure we will do it again!!!

At The Races

One of our favorite things to do in one of our favorite places is the Winter Park Mountain Bike Race Series at well, Winter Park, CO. I am sure WP is awesome in the winter as well, but we only know it as a summer hot spot. There is great camping in Frasier (and Christmas Tree cutting in the Winter). There are fab trails to run (or ride, whatever you prefer...or hiking if you are not hardcore:) There is a little eatery called Deano's Mountain Bistro where you can get a killer gyro. Seriously. Delish.

Brian has been doing this series since the summer we moved up here. We have lots of stories of happenings at WP. Like the one time I wound up in the Emergency Medical Center b/c I passed out due to low BG. That was fun. The staff was very nice and even made me a PB&J. Sure, it was a little bit frozen, but when your blood sugar is 23, frozen PB&J is excellent! There is even a skate park for all the little punks to go skate at, and believe me, they do.

Anyhow, here are some pictures of Brian at his bike race. He was so cranky after this particular race b/c he was cramping at the top of the climb and some guy passed him. When he got done he just wanted to leave b/c he was convinced that he lost and got last place. So, like a huffy child (I have one of those too), he stormed off with all kinds of testosterone in tow and we left without staying for awards. Turns out that the huffy boy got third place. Now he is mad that we didn't stay for awards b/c he would have gotten a glass to replace the one that my mom broke a few months ago (yes Mom, he is still mad about that:(
bye for now! xoxo
